Bangkok Southerners Take the Cup at Phuket Mixed Touch

Touch rugby in Phuket keeps growing. On Saturday 4 April, the Alan Cooke Ground hosted the second Phuket Mixed Touch Rugby Tournament, bringing teams from across Thailand together for a full day of fast, social, mixed touch.

Results

After a round-robin group stage, teams split into Cup, Plate and Bowl competitions for the knockout rounds:

• Cup final: Bangkok Southerners beat defending champions The Hickey's 3–1.

• Plate final: Pattaya Panthers edged Hat Yai Pretty Mammoth 1–0, decided by a nail-biting drop-off: extra time with fewer players on the pitch until someone scores.

Awards

The Male MVP went to Rex Yi and the Female MVP to Gracie Layard. There were also Golden Boy and Golden Girl awards for the best junior players aged 14–16, and a Super Senior award for the best player aged 45 and over. Thanks to referee Chris Hallewell for keeping it all running on the day.
